About Our Tank

M60A3 Patton Main Battle Tank
M60A3 Patton Main Battle Tank

The tank parked in front of our post is an M60A3 Patton main battle tank. The M60 series was derived from the earlier M48A5 Patton tank. Besides having the same name, the two tanks are visually almost identical. What makes this an M60A3 is the 105 mm high-velocity rifle main weapon, which was an upgrade from the M48 90 mm tank gun. The M60 series was also fitted with a ballistic fire control computer for increased accuracy when firing-while-moving. Both the M48 and M60 series tanks were used in Vietnam. (FYI; There was also an “M60” machine gun widely-used in Vietnam.)

Post 6562 also has a memorial wall located directly behind the M60A3. The names of deceased veterans who are affiliated with our post are engraved on the bricks. Please remember to say a prayer sometime for our vets who have shipped out to their final duty station. Thank you.
